The Super Mario games are pretty big when it comes to collectibles…but it turns out we haven't seen anything yet, as Super Mario Odyssey is actually set to be even bigger.

GameSpot posted a gameplay video from last week's presentation at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, and during the presentation, it was revealed that the game will have a whole lot of collectibles – we're talking 30 to 50 Moons. Per level.

Now, in case you don't know what Moons are, they're basically taking the place of the Stars from Super Mario Galaxy, and Mario will probably be required to collect a particular amount within the game before moving on. Considering there are so many, though, it doesn't seem like players will get stuck on trying to catch just one. Of course, die-hard players will want to go after them all, merely for the sake of completion.

On top of that, the scope of the game was discussed, and it's apparent that Super Mario Odyssey will have a much similar scope as Breath of the Wild…which means you'll have miles upon miles of terrain to uncover. That said, the exploration factor is a little bit different, so you won't really get lost or anything like that.

It sounds like Nintendo is putting a great deal of effort into making Super Mario Odyssey its biggest release in the series. That's a far cry from other great games that we've seen over the years, including Super Mario 64, oddball favorite Super Mario Sunshine for the GameCube, and, most recently, the Galaxy games for the Wii. It's also much larger than anything we've seen from Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U, though that game had a more general, multiplayer-friendly set-up anyway.

Odyssey looks to bring players back to that "good ol'" feeling of Mario. No Catsuits or anything like that, but still plenty of abilities to take advantage of, challenges to defeat and, of course, Moons to collect. We can't wait to get our hands on it and spend days uncovering all the incredible secrets that it harbors.

Super Mario Odyssey arrives on October 27th for Nintendo Switch.
