The Rift Herald has become more of an objective but still isn't that enticing to grab when you're playing League of Legends. Sure, if you're absolutely rolling the other team - grabbing the Rift Herald helps you create even more pressure but when the game is close early on, teams aren't keen on focusing the Rift Herald. Instead, teams will focus on other objectives or just straight up ignore the Rift Herald until she's replaced by Baron.
According to Meddler, League of Legends Lead Gameplay Designer, the Rift Herald will be undergoing some slight changes to make her more valuable
"Rift Herald looks to be in a pretty good space still," said Meddler. "We'll be making a slight buff most likely in the next patch, however, increasing the gold reward for the kill from 25g to 100g."
Meddler then talked about why they're upping the gold intake instead of just making the Herald easier to kill. "Goal there is to put a bit more power in for taking the camp in the first place, bringing up the baseline value a little even if you don't get much out of the summon itself (e.g. if your team's behind and can't support the push well)," said Meddler. "Also puts a bit more reward in for the jungler (usually) specifically."
A 75 gold increase is quite the hefty bump. Rewarding the summoner with gold is fantastic and as Meddler alluded to, rewarding the jungler specifically will help the team out in the long run. Creating a gold buff instead of a damage/health nerf on the Rift Herald is actually quite the interesting idea that Riot hopes will pay off to make their recently updated project a little more valuable.
