Just in time to join other summer sports, it appears as though Overwatch's game mode Lucioball might be coming back soon for a Summer Games 2017 event, as seen in a data mine of the recent PTR changes.

News of the return of the fan-favorite game mode comes from a couple of different sources, many of which posted information to Reddit about what they'd seen when poking around in the PTR files. One Redditor by the name of Elooohell posted a picture of some stats that were seen within the testing realm. The screenshot showed three different statistics to be kept up with — Goals, Interceptions, and Saves — all of which very much point towards Lucioball making a return.

Other users were also able to stumble upon the same stats. These images being released follow another post where a user found an audio file that was suggested to possibly be one that would be associated with the Summer Games theme, but the consensus wasn't unanimous on what the audio file would be used for.

Those who have played Lucioball before will recall that the game mode plays out similarly to a Rocket League match where players take control of Lucio as they attempt to blast a ball into the opposing team's goal. Huge jumps and high-speed wall rides allows players to navigate the map faster in a rounded-rectangle arena.

Back in May, it was stated that Overwatch might not have any new events in its second year, but that doesn't mean that they aren't planning on bringing back an older event, especially one that players have been asking for since it went away.

Lucioball isn't live on the PTR just yet, if it is coming soon at all, but the most recent PTR update did bring on a couple of new changes that should make the whole experience more enjoyable for players and will look to make loot boxes more rewarding. Some of the changes that are currently being tested are reduced duplicates and more credits from loot boxes as well as the ability to save your best replays in 4K quality.
