Report: Sources at BioWare Confirm Mass Effect Andromeda Won't Get Story DLC

Yesterday we reported that, according to an Austrian software company called Sinclair Networks, Mass Effect: Andromeda's single-player DLC had been canceled. Today, Kotaku's Jason Schreier is reporting that, according to his sources, the DLC was never in development to begin with. What's more, we shouldn't get our hopes up for DLC at all.

So here's the thing. The Facebook post from "Sinclair Networks" was pretty much totally accurate. It seems that Mass Effect: Andromeda won't be getting any story DLC because, in short, it's not worth it. The game was received poorly, and the whole animation fiasco pretty much ensures that whenever patches or DLC does come out, the only thing anyone will want to talk about is whether or not the faces look better.

The weird thing is that Sinclair claimed to have been working on the DLC for BioWare, but BioWare claims that it has no idea who these people are. They call them a "fake company." Why these guys needed to claim that they were working on the game when they weren't is a mystery to us -- maybe they believed it would lend their claims credibility -- but in the long run the truth of the matter is all the validity they needed.

At any rate, Schreier claims that his sources are telling a very similar story. "This will be a drastic departure for the long-running sci-fi series," he says. "All three Mass Effect games received single-player content after launch, with expansions like Mass Effect 2's Lair of the Shadow Broker and Mass Effect 3's Citadel earning praise for their stories and character development. Fans had expected a similar approach for Mass Effect: Andromeda, but mediocre reviews and animation memes have steered the series in an unfortunate new direction" (emphasis mine).

It's sad news for Mass Effect fans, and it's a pity that the series had to end up in the hole that it's in right now. Perhaps EA will make the attempt to revive Mass Effect in the future, but even if that's the case, we know that the Mass Effect that we deserve is at least years away.
