Kamiko

For those of you that think indie games don't fare that well on a new platform…well, you haven't seen what Flyhigh Works can do.

A little while back, the team released a top-down Zelda-style adventure called Kamiko, with a charming little presentation and fun gameplay that kept players entertained. Of course, the $5 price point didn't hurt either. And now the game has managed to sell quite well.

The publisher has confirmed that Kamiko, from the development team at Skipmore, has sold more than 110,000 units worldwide, an unprecedented number for a game with minimal advertising and hype. It's just snuck up on players.

Speaking with Nintendo Life, the co-founder of Circle Entertainment, Chris Chau, noted that most of the game's sales came from the United States, by 48 percent. Meanwhile, 27 percent came from Europe and Australia, and 25 percent came from Japan. And the game's not done selling yet, considering that it's getting strong word-of-mouth and reviews to push it into must-have territory. And, again, the fact it only costs a five dollar bill doesn't hurt at all.

That hasn't stopped Skipmore from trying to repeat its success, though. The team has announced that it's already hard at work on a new game called Picontier for the Nintendo Switch, a role-playing style adventure that takes elements of farming, crafting, mining and fishing to the next level. Considering Stardew Valley is such a hit seller, it probably wouldn't surprise us if this did the same thing, especially with that many gameplay elements at play.

Kamiko is available now for Nintendo Switch, and we highly recommend it.
