It's going to be a big year for the Destiny franchise. Not only will the sequel, Destiny 2, be rocking consoles this September, but it's also coming to PC for the first time as well – and it looks to be a very big hit there.

SuperData Research recently filed a report that indicates the PC version of the forthcoming space adventure could be a big seller, with four to five million units clearing out within the game's first three months of sale. That's not bad at all – even with the limitation that the game will only be available through Blizzard's Battle.net service, instead of the usual circles like Steam.

The company noted that it "evaluated the performance of Destiny 1 on both console and PC and how it compared to other AAA titles that launched during the same time period. (Keep in mind that the original game did not come to PC, and the team has yet to respond to that.) The company also noted that it's taken a number of other items into consideration, such as the "Battle.net release on PC and macro-level digital download trends," but the numbers still hold steady.

The game will more than likely be a big hit on consoles, especially with the open beta that's set to launch on July 18th for PlayStation 4, and just a day later on Xbox One. From there, players will be able to see what the sequel is all about. As for PC owners, they'll have to wait a bit for an open beta to surface, as one hasn't been announced just yet. We'll have to wait and see what Activision has planned.

In the meantime, pre-orders for Destiny 2 have been rather strong across all platforms, so it wouldn't be surprised if the PC version ended up living up to its end of the deal, despite the original game not being released for the platform. We'll see how sales settle out over the next few months, but, yeah, it's scoring points aplenty.

Destiny 2 releases on September 6th for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and October 24th for PC.
