Pokemon Fans Should Temper Expectations for Tomorrow's Mystery Reveal
Last week, Pokemon fans (mainly in the US and Europe) were captivated by a mysterious video that [...]
Daisuki Club
The video is tied to the Daisuki Club, an official Pokemon fan club run by the Pokemon Company. The Daisuki Club is the Japanese equivalent to the Pokemon Trainers Club in the US and strives to keep its fans both entertained and up to date on the latest Pokemon news.
Although you might not have heard of the Daisuki Club, you've probably seen its work. The Daisuki Club made the goofy Magnemite video that made the rounds earlier this year, as well as all those silly puppet videos featuring Pikachu and its friends.
To keep fans thinking about Pokemon all the time, the Daisuki Club periodically publishes manga and websites for their fans that explore lesser known parts of the Pokemon universe. For instance, a few years ago, the Daisuki Club released a series of images to help fans visualize how HMs really worked in the Pokemon universe, including this hilarious picture showing a Pidgey flying its trainer to a new town.
Whatever the movie is teasing, it's almost certainly either a one-off manga or a website exploring the extraterrestrial side of Pokemon that features a couple of new pieces of artwork.
prevnextWhat the Video Isn't
We'll know the answer to the "mystery video" Wednesday morning, but there's a few things that we can almost certainly rule out. It's not a video game announcement for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, or Detective Pikachu. Nintendo and the Pokemon Company makes those sort of announcements jointly, and almost always through a Pokemon Direct video (which are announced in advance and not teased through a mystery video).
It's also not a new anime series. While a Pokemon Generations style-anime about the strange mysteries of the Pokemon universe sounds cool, they're also expensive to make and Nintendo would likely make a bigger deal of it then a Japanese-only video and website. There's also no reason for a secondary anime series, even if Pokemon: Generations was well-received.
Let's face it: if the video was actually a big deal, Nintendo and the Pokemon Company would have at least released the time they were going to drop the announcement. Whatever the video is, it'll likely be something fun and totally inconsequential. Pokemon fans should expect to wake up to something fun tomorrow morning...but not something big.
