Sonic has certainly faced his fair share of bad guys over the years, including Knuckles the Echidna (who surprisingly became an ally), Dr. Robotnik and the evil Metal Sonic. But a new trailer released by Sega for the forthcoming Sonic Forces has an even more dangerous foe coming to the table – say hello to Infinite.

In the trailer, the speedy, glowing hedgehog-like character, who introduces himself with a foreboding voice and brushes off Sonic's fast moves like they were nothing, introduces himself and promises to be quite a challenge to the hero – especially since he's pairing up with Dr. Eggman and his many allies, including Chaos, Metal Sonic, Shadow the Hedgehog and Zavok. Their goal? Try to take over the world, obviously.

The character was hinted at originally last month during a showcase at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, but this trailer, which can be seen above, puts him more info focus, as we get an idea of what he's all about, and, more importantly, what he's capable of. Sonic will certainly have his hands full when it comes to dealing with him, or his – what seems to be – unlimited power.

In addition to the new trailer, we also included a new "theme of Infinite," which can be listened to in the video below. It really provides a dark theme for the mysterious hedgehog-style character, and has you thinking just what he'll be throwing at Sonic when the new game arrives later this year. Whatever the case, Sonic and company will need to think of something – and fast – if they wish to keep the world safe from his turmoil.

Sonic Forces looks to be quite the follow-up to the previous release Sonic Generations, which it's closely fashioned around. It features both 2D and 3D segments through an elaborate world, filled with traps, enemies and alternate routes for Sonic and his friends to get around. They'll need to take advantage of everything they have in order to overcome Eggman and his growing army of adversaries – especially Infinite. No, really, good luck figuring that guy out.

Sonic Forces will release later this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
