Today we finally got our first look at Starfire gameplay in Injustice 2, and all we can say is it was worth the wait. The trailer was unveiled today during a special DC Comics All Access livestream, straight from San Diego Comic-Con. Check it out for yourself above!
Starfire wasn't exactly a surprise release. Ever since the DLC fighters from Injustice 2's Fighter Pack 1 were revealed, we knew that Starfire would be joining the roster eventually. This is the first time we've seen her in action, though. When she joins the Injustice 2 lineup with Sub-Zero and Red Hood, we'll be looking forward to the imminent reveals of the next Fighter Pack, which will contain the next three DLC characters.
As with every other character on the Injustice 2 roster, one of the things we're most excited to see once Starfire lands on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is how she interacts with other characters. We obviously expect her to have some choice words for Red Hood, Robin, Cyborg, and Batman, but we're wondering how the folks at NetherRealm and DC will work together to weave her character together in new ways to fit into the game with other characters like Sub-Zero, Blue Beetle, and Firestorm.
Going into the trailer I assumed that we'd be seeing nothing but projectiles. Starfire is known for projecting energy, and we certainly are seeing a bit of that, but honestly it looks like Starfire is at her worst (or best) when she's up close and personal with her opponents. She's has some brutal combos, and it looks like a lot of her energy bursts are used as finishing moves to those combos. That green-beam helicopter spinning move (we're pretty sure that's not the official name) looked absolutely sick.
We also saw some interesting grapples and mixups in there, and it looks like Starfire may be able to toss in some quick grabs to mix change things up. You may have noticed to that she does have a few tools in her arsenal for those of you who want to keep your distance. The slowly floating orb combined with some well-timed energy strikes may just give Deadshot a run for his money.
