Amid superheroes and fighting games galore that are getting content reveals during this year's San Diego Comic Con, one of the welcome surprises from the event so far has come from a much older game. According to hands-on gameplay tests that players were able to take part in at the convention, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will apparently be able to run on the handheld mode of the Nintendo Switch.

Reports that one of the most popular and often remade Elder Scrolls games would be playable in handheld mode as it makes its way to its next home on the Switch come from the YouTuber and gamer FILIP who was present during the preview at Comic Con. FILIP uploaded the video, shown above, that gave his first impressions of the game as well as a preview of how the game would look running on a much smaller screen.

Surprisingly enough, the game doesn't actually look like it's suffering from a drastic dip in quality when being played in the handheld mode. As FILIP mentioned in his first impressions video, being able to play Skyrim on the Switch as one of the games that Nintendo brought to Comic Con to preview was an unexpected surprise initially, let alone the opportunity to play it as a handheld game.

According to FILIP's statements about the game that were relayed to him through a Nintendo representative that was assisting players with the trials, the game is running in 720p at 30 fps, not bad for an intensive Elder Scrolls game that's not even being run in TV mode. The combat is one of the vital parts of Skyrim that would definitely make or break the game, especially in handheld mode, but the game didn't seem to experience any drops in framerate or quality when FILIP engaged in combat with multiple enemies at a time. Motion controls are also available with the Switch version, though they weren't tested within the video. A Nintendo rep stressed how fun it was to attempt to pick a lock using these motion controls.

Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch is available to pre-order now with a December release date.
