Today we saw the reveal trailer for a magical new game called Noita. At first glance, on paper at least, Noita might come across as another "run of the mill" indie game. It uses all of the right buzzwords. "Pixel art." "Rogue-lite." "Procedural generation." The market is getting pretty saturated with games promising this type of experience, but Noita looks and behaves very differently, since every single pixel physically simulated. Check out the reveal trailer above to see what we mean.

Notice how when you cast magic in Noita, every spell and every effect those spells have on the environment come to life in an entrancing way. Every pixel being simulated means that your magic and the world will shimmer and move with convincing and spellbinding complexity. We can think of few twists or mechanics that could make a game like this stand out in a crowd, but this has us very, very intrigued.

  • Pixel-based physics: Every pixel in the world is simulated. Burn, explode or melt anything. Swim in blood of your foes!
  • Your own magic: Create new spells as you delve deeper into the caverns. Use your magic to crush your enemies and manipulate the world around you.
  • Action rogue-lite: Death is permanent and always a looming threat. When you die, don't despair, use what you've learned to get further on your next adventure.
  • Procedurally generated world: Explore a unique world every time you play. Discover new environments as you adventure deeper.

Right now the developers at Nolla Games are being perfectly transparent about Noita's status in the oven. It's still cooking, by the way. No, they don't have an official release date, and no they don't know if it will come to any other platform other than Windows PCs at the moment. If you want to play this gorgeous game, you're going to have to wait patiently like the rest of us. Learn more at the official Noita website here.
