Here’s Your Chance To Play Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition For Free On Xbox One

Offering a game for free for a weekend is a great way to give it promotion, as it gives people the "try before you buy" stance and lets them experience the release however they see fit, and then deciding whether to buy it or not. It's a nice return to form since the idea of a game demo kind of went away with this generation.

And now another game is taking advantage of the "free weekend" idea. Blizzard has announced that Xbox Live Gold members will be able to enjoy Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition on the house on the Xbox One this weekend, starting Thursday, July 27th at 9:00 AM PDT, and running through 11:59 PM PDT on Monday, July 31st.

The team noted, "This Ultimate Evil Edition contains both Diablo III and the Reaper of Souls expansion set, together in one definitive volume. Rise as one of humanity's last defenders — crusader, barbarian, witch doctor, demon hunter, monk, or wizard — and collect legendary loot while mastering devastating new powers and abilities. Play solo or form a party of up to four other heroes, either with local players together on the same screen or online. Lay waste to hordes of evil throughout all five acts of the Diablo III storyline, or explore the open world in Adventure Mode to hunt bounties on the elder evils that lurk throughout the mortal realms." It'll provide all the features that players have come to expect from the full release, along with the ability to play online.

What's more, like with most free weekends, the special edition of the game will be on sale all weekend long, as the Diablo III: Eternal Collection, which contains the main game and its add-ons, will be marked down 35 percent from its regular price. That offers a pretty good savings, so check out the full game for itself and then don't be afraid to plunk down on a full release.

Hopefully, we'll see Diablo III get other events on other systems. A PlayStation 4 free weekend wouldn't be out of the question, and we already know how avid its PC community is.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. There's also an edition available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
