Ubisoft is providing pretty good support for the Nintendo Switch, between last year's release of Just Dance 2017, the forthcoming exclusive Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, and ports of popular games like Rayman Legends and Steep.

That said, it's not full-blown, as big titles, like Watch Dogs 2 and Assassin's Creed: Origins, appear to be missing from the system. And now you can add one more to the list that isn't likely to make its way to the platform – Skull and Bones.

The multiplayer pirate game, which was announced last month during Ubisoft's E3 presentation to thunderous applause, seems to be destined for other platforms, like the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, but the Switch version isn't in the cards.

While speaking with GameSpot, the creative director for Skull and Bones, Ubisoft Singapore's Justin Farren, noted, "Our world is pretty rich in terms of the world that we're bringing to life. We haven't really talked too much about the Switch, but if that becomes a reality then we would maximize the strengths of the Switch."

That's not a full-blown "no," mind you, and if the team can find a workaround – and perhaps even work diligently enough with the forthcoming Nintendo Online network, then it could make it happen. But for now, the team seems to be focusing on other editions of the game.

"There's not too much I can say about any specific console, but I will say that we're targeting PC and consoles. Every bit of the technical team is focused on making sure we are maximizing the strength of the consoles we're targeting. So when you read about more memory or rendering, those are things we're leveraging."

The team is currently hard at work on a forthcoming beta build for the game, which is expected sometime later this year, but hasn't been finalized just yet. Once they get that out of the way, we're likely to get more of the lowdown in terms of what the final game's release will hold – and if it'll possibly come to the Switch.

For now, Skull and Bones is set for a release in mid-to-late 2018 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
