For those of you curious how multiplayer is supposed to work in Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV, there's a good way to find out without paying a dime – though you will have to meet some requirements first.

The company is hosting a closed beta that focuses on the forthcoming feature to the game, and it's available for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 from August 3rd through the 8th.

However, there's a catch. In order to take part in the multiplayer beta, you have to meet three basic requirements.

First off, you need to own the game. This is a given, though some people might think they can test the beta without it. But you can't.

The second thing is you'll have needed to bought the Season pass for Final Fantasy XV. If you haven't purchased it yet, you can buy it in either the Xbox Live Marketplace or PlayStation Store and add it to your collection (and download the DLC that comes with it as well).

Finally, you'll need to be a subscriber to either Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus, depending on which system you have. This should be pretty easy to get if you're not a subscriber already, for around $50 for a single year. For FFXV fans, it could very well be worth it.

The beta isn't live just yet, but the store page is, and you can find it for Xbox One here and PlayStation 4 here. It never hurts to get prepared ahead of time, so that you can beat the server rush and be ready to jump into the action.

The only thing left to wait on now is a release date for the actual feature, which hasn't been revealed by Square Enix just yet. It all depends how smoothly everything goes over in the beta. However, if we were to take an estimated guess, it looks like we could be checking out the mode later this year.

For now, good luck getting into the beta, and remember to have some fun with your friends – even if you're pushing a car on the side of the road. (Is that in the beta?)

Final Fantasy XV is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
