Even though it managed to come out near the end of the company's latest quarter, WB Games has announced that Injustice 2 has become quite the peak performer for the publisher.

According to GamesIndustry International, WB Games noted that NetherRealm Studios' latest brawler (behind its previous work, Mortal Kombat XL), has managed to become "the highest-grossing console game in the second quarter of 2017." That puts it ahead of other games that launched during the period, including Nintendo's Mario Kart 8, Bandai Namco's Tekken 7, and Bethesda's reboot of Prey, as well as previously released games like Grand Theft Auto V and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The company as a whole is doing quite well, with Injustice contributing to its success. The Warner Bros. division has seen big success between the fighting game and the DC Comics film Wonder Woman, which has managed to rack up nearly $335 million in its first 30 days of release alone. The studio noted that the division saw revenues increase by 12 percent to $2.99 billion from the previous year. That said, its operating income did take a drop, down 28 percent to $223 million.

But that's nothing to fret over, as WB and its game division are continuing onward for a strong fall/winter season. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is building all sorts of hype leading into its October release, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 looks to be a strong title for both comic book fans and family-oriented gamers, and, of course, there's Injustice 2's DLC roster, with Bizarro arriving this week as a premium skin and Starfire set to arrive next month as part of the first three-pack of characters for the game. And it won't be long before we hear about who's coming around the corner next, as NetherRealm is hard at work on a forthcoming announcement.

Don't be surprised if Injustice 2 manages to make its way into the top 10 best-selling games of 2017 at the rate that it's going. It certainly deserves the success.

Injustice 2 is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
