It's almost time for Starfire to join the Injustice 2 party, folks.
After an incredible reveal trailer we've been drumming our fingers and rocking in our chairs awaiting more footage and release date details. NetherRealm cranked up the hype by announcing a Starfire Watchtower stream for this coming Monday!
You guys know the drill. Tyler and the crew are going to kick off the stream by answering fan questions, so if you have any burning Q's that you would like to see answered on stream, now would be the time to send those in! After five-to-ten minutes of answering questions, NetherRealm will typically bring on some QA pros to show off some dazzling high-level gameplay.
This is what we've been waiting for! Starfire has so many unique moves and such a unique style, and on Monday we get to truly see her in action. No pre-choreographed gameplay this time. Starfire strikes us as unique because, while she certainly has some zoning potential, she actually comes across as more of a close-range striker and grappler. We figured she'd be all pew-pew and not very much punch-punch. That doesn't seem to be the case.
All speculation points to Starfire releasing next week or the week after. Since the stream is taking place on Monday, there's a chance that Starfire launches into action on Tuesday. August 15th sounds more likely to us, however. Either way, we're probably getting our release date during the stream on Monday.
We have another reason to get hyped, too. NetherRealm recently showed off some brand new Starfire gameplay footage, and in it we get a callout to an obscure DC Comics character. Check it out below.
In this brief gameplay clip, we see an intriguing clash between Robin and Starfire. We expect some of the juiciest dialogue in the entire game to come out of these two in their intro exchanges and in clashes like this one. Indeed, we're already getting some fascinating callouts. In this instance, Starfire states that "not even Trigon could take my heat."
Now that's interesting. Trigon is a fairly obscure reference, though the demon does play a pretty prominent role within the Teen Titans canon as Starfire's one-time captor and Raven's father. It's a name that we haven't heard in a while, and we can't help but wonder if Trigon may eventually make it into the game. Oh yeah, you guys know exactly what picture we're about to come back to.
Remember this beauty? There are a number of silhouettes that could belong to Trigon if you use your imagination. His horns could be hidden by the giant hat that we assume belongs to Raiden; it wouldn't be the first time NetherRealm trolled its fans with silhouettes. He could also be any of the hulking humanoid shapes as well. A bowed head and cloak can work wonders.
Is there a demon in our midst, or is Trigon DLC too far-fetched? Let us know what you think below.
