PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Crosses 500,000 Concurrent Users Milestone

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds accomplished quite the impressive feat today when the game reached a new personal high for concurrent players as it crossed the 500,000 mark for the first time since the game's release.

News of the latest accomplishment that the game can boast about comes from the battle royale game's creator through his Twitter account, a tweet that was later retweeted by the official game's account. Posting a screenshot of the game statistics made available by Steam, the chart of games that people are playing the most on the PC platform hosted PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds at No. 2 on the list for concurrent players.

During the morning when the news was tweeted, the game had 519,478 concurrent players, an absolutely massive number for a game that's so new on the market. The screenshot puts the standings into perspective perfectly as you can see that the game even overtook Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for a while, soaring past other games like Team Fortress 2 and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. At the time of this writing, the game has moved back under Counter-Strike at the No. 3 spot, but the fact that it can beat the popular war game even for a brief time is plenty impressive on its own.

It's still not quite close to the MOBA Dota 2 that boasted over 700,000 players when the stats were looked at, but Dota 2 has had plenty of time to generate such a number that PlayerUnknown's looks to be approaching pretty quickly. Dethroning Dota 2 any time soon seems unlikely, especially with the MOBA currently generating buzz around its annual championship tournament, but PlayerUnknown's is establishing itself as quite the contender.

The game is no stranger to such successes though as it did extremely well when it was first released even though it was, and still is, only in an Early Access version. With millions of copies sold for a game that's not even in its final edition and is continually receiving updates while approaching a release on consoles, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is pushing aside its competition on its way up the leaderboards.
