We're not too far off from the return of the NBA 2K franchise, as NBA 2K18 is set to tip off in a matter of weeks on a variety of platforms. And it looks like the game will be featuring a number of teams set to give you a run for your money – and not just current squads.

The team has revealed via Twitter today that it will include championship teams within the game, as part of the 2K Classic Team Tournament that will be included. Thus far, we know about two of the teams – 1996 Miami Heat and the 1998 New York Knicks – and the developers have promised that the full line-up will be revealed next week, on August 25th.

The Heat managed to eke a pretty good win record over the course of the '96 season, coming up just short of winning the championship, if it weren't for the determination of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. As for the Knicks, their squad finished 27-23, and they didn't quite make the Finals, but they had their fair share of great players, including the great Patrick Ewing.

We'll have more information on the superstar squads that will be selectable in the game once the news is confirmed next week.

Meanwhile, 2K Sports also revealed a new trailer for the game, giving us a closer look at the game art that will be implemented into NBA 2K18. It looks pretty hyper realistic, and the various camera angles promise to capture all the action and authenticity of NBA match-ups.

The publisher has high hopes for this year's game, as it expects to ship over 8.5 million units. Of course, it helps that it'll be getting exposure on a new platform, as it'll be available on the Nintendo Switch for the first time in digital form. Versions will also be released for older consoles as well, including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We certainly wish the team the best of luck.

You can check out the trailer above to get your fill of NBA action. We can't wait to go dunkin' on fools.

NBA 2K18 releases on September 19th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
