Blizzard is no stranger to making tweaks to certain characters in Overwatch, in an effort to balance them or provide buffs so that they aren't so overwhelming in multiplayer matches. But a fan favorite is about to get some changes that players may want to make note of.

The company's principal designer Geoff Goodman recently posted a blog on Battle.net indicated that some changes are on the way for the mech-riding goddess, with some ideas being passed around in a "D.Va Reword ideas thread" where community members are making a number of suggestions.

Some of these changes have already been considered, including the following:

  • Defense Matrix: Energy drain increased by 2x. This means her effective uptime for this ability has been reduced by 50%.
  • Boosters: D.Va can now use her Fusion Cannons while flying.
  • New ability – Micro Missiles: D.Va launches a long salvo of small missiles that explode on impact, dealing damage in a small radius around them. This ability can be used while using her other abilities or firing her Fusion Cannons.

Goodman made note that D.VA's damage dealing has to be balanced out with her Defensive Matrix, which manages to block bullets and other projectiles. This ability will continue to be quite powerful, although the uptime is sure to be tinkered with so that it's not used so much. In addition, the Micro Missiles, combined with the ability to fire with boosting, does still provide her with a number of options that still make her effective in battle.

The changes are just proposed at this point, but we could very likely see these changes take effect first in the PTR system on PC, so that players can see just how effective they'll be. There's no word yet on when – or if – they'll be added to the final game. We'll certainly let you know.

Overwatch is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
