New footage from Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon shows an iconic Alola location...without one of its major characters. A 20 second clip posted to Pokemon's Japanese Twitter account shows the player character approaching the peak of Wela Volcano. In the original games, Wela Volcano was the site of a trial run by Kiawe, but a random hiker greets the player character instead.

Kiawe was one of Pokemon Sun and Moon's trial captains, who were stand-ins of sort for gym leaders. Instead of battling through gyms, players completed random tasks on the islands in trials, which usually culminated with a battle against a giant Totem Pokemon that had beefed up stats and the ability to call for help.

Kiawe's trial had players find the difference between several dances involving Alolan Marowak. The hiker seen in the footage above popped out during one of the dances and challenged the player to a battle.

While the trials were a nice change of pace in Pokemon Sun and Moon, many players wanted to see gyms return to the games. Early footage from Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon hints that the gyms will make a return to the game, filling conspicuous building sized holes found in many cities.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is an "alternate" story to the original Pokemon Sun and Moon games. In addition to new buildings and features, the game will also have several new Z-Moves and a new Lycanroc forme that mixes its Midday and Midnight formes. The Legendary Pokemon Necrozma will also have a prominent role in the new game and is hinted to somehow merge with the game's other Legendary Pokemon to make them stronger.

We only have to wait a couple more months to find all the differences between Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and the last Pokemon games. Both new Pokemon games come out on November 17th.
