Let's say that you haven't gotten around to playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim just yet, mainly because you've been busy with other games, or you're just afraid that you don't have enough time to see what it's all about. Well, either way, you've got a key opportunity to check it out, as the game will be available on a free-to-play basis for this weekend.

Bethesda has announced that the game's Special Edition will be available free of charge from now through Sunday, September 10th. Steam users will be able to play it through 4 PM EDT, while Xbox One owners can play around with their version through 11:59 PM PDT. The full game will be available at this time.

One thing to note about the Xbox One version of the game is that you'll need an Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to take part in the offer.

What's more, on top of the free weekend for the game, Bethesda has also marked down Skyrim: Special Edition so you can get it for a pretty affordable price. The game is available now for $20 on Steam, and $30 on Xbox One. This sale will go on through the next week, with the Xbox One sale ending September 18th, and the Steam version sale concluding on September 19th, a day later.

It's a good opportunity to jump into the game and see what it's all about, as you roam through an open world, brandishing a weapon of choice (like a sword) and taking advantage of many special spells as you take on enemies both human and inhuman – including a bunch of dragons that you'll need to put a lot of effort into to bring down to size. The game has earned critical acclaim on every platform it's been on, and it'll be coming to the Nintendo Switch as well later this year, where it's likely to be a big hit.

You can download and buy the Steam version here, and the Xbox One version here. Jump in and have a good time!

Skyrim: Special Edition is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and coming later this year for Nintendo Switch.
