The new fog mechanic that's coming soon to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds received a couple of sneak peeks recently to get players excited for the new weather effects.

Adding fog to the combat-heavy battle royale game is a feature that's been teased for a while now, and with the next patch, the new map effects are set to release and roll fog out over the battlegrounds. After sharing just one tweet not too long ago when the game's Twitter account gave one quick look at the fog, the game's team has followed up on that preview with even more screenshots.

Compared to a fogless map, the new low-hanging weather effects definitely seem to add a bit of an extra challenge when it comes to visibility. Faraway objects like trees and buildings are nowhere near as clear as they would be in a normal match, and even through the screenshots don't include any players in them, it's easy to imagine how it'll change the one-for-all gameplay.

For players who opt for the servers that only allow for first-person matches, the fog will likely be a more potent change that'll cause players to be on edge at every shadowy movement in the distance. Games in third person might not be affected quite as much, however.

The fog mechanic received mixed responses when it was announced with some players excited for the change and others preferring the game like it is now, sometimes concerned with how lower-end computers would handle the fog. That concern has been rebutted several times during the discussions about fog though with the explanation that fog would reduce details in the distance and would hopefully increase performance as opposed to hindering it.

The fog is set to come in the next patch though no matter what, but exact details on how it'll work throughout the games will likely come with the patch notes releasing tomorrow.

Aside from the foggy weather, the upcoming patch will also include plenty of bugfixes and performance tweaks as the game's team continues to work on PUBG while it's still in early access. A new weapon is also shipping with the new patch, but vaulting is nowhere to be seen at the moment.
