There were some reports a while back that Activision and Sledgehammer Games would not be making Call of Duty: WWII 4K compatible on the Xbox One X, mainly because the companies were working so hard alongside Sony on the PS4/PS4 Pro versions of the game. (Their agreement covers a number of titles, including Destiny 2.) However, a recent product listing on the GAME website indicates that it could be supported after all.

The listing from the European retailer indicates that the game will in fact be Xbox One X supported. As you can see from the image below, it says in the upper corner of the game's packaging that it's 4K Ultra HD compatible, with HDR and "Xbox One X Enhanced". And it looks like pretty official cover art for the game, as it indicates the Weapon Unlock and 2XP Multiplayer Upgrade that's been offered as a pre-order perk for the game.

Call 2

Microsoft's official list of Xbox One X enhanced titles doesn't include the game yet, but the company might be saving it for a surprise closer to the system's launch, in the hopes of building up hype for it. And Activision isn't likely to say a word because of its agreement with Sony, though it could possibly casually mention the support in one of its TV ads.

Activision didn't have any comment at the time of the report, but the Xbox One X support looks to be a surefire deal. It's just a matter of seeing whether or not Microsoft adds the title to its list, or pops it up as a surprise when it launches on November 7th. Whatever the case, the game is likely to look beautiful running on traditional Xbox One hardware anyway, with Sledgehammer Games doing a damn fine job with the in-game engine. We're still excited to play it, 4K support or no.

We'll see what the official lists says in just a few weeks. But don't let that stop you from pre-ordering Call of Duty: WWII – this thing is going to be a beast.

Look for the game starting on November 3rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
