Avalanche Studios has already done a good job with its last effort, Just Cause 3, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, creating a terrific open-world adventure where you could pretty much do whatever you damn well pleased while trying to liberate a third-world country. But that could be just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the company has planned.

A NeoGAF user by the name of Nirolak recently posted about potential job openings for the company, indicating that it's looking for both a multiplayer technical director and a senior multiplayer programmer. However, the thing worth noting here is that the two hires would be working on upcoming projects "for both current and next-gen platforms."

The hires would be working with the studio's "next generation open world/sandbox multiplayer engine," which means the team is either working on new hardware we don't know about yet, or a new engine based around current tech. More than likely, next generation could be in the cards, especially with Sony hinting at possible PlayStation 5 production in a few years, and Microsoft ready to launch its Xbox One X.

This isn't the first example either, as Nirolak also noted that Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata also talked about how his team's next project would likely come from next-gen.

We're not certain if Sony nor Microsoft has provided development kits for whatever its new tech could be, so, for right now, we'll have to take this with a grain of salt. But there's always the possibility that companies are preparing for what lies ahead with the machines that get announced over the next few years.

As far as what Avalanche is working on, it's not confirmed to be a Just Cause sequel. In fact, it could possibly be a tie-in with the Marvel's Avengers projects that the parent company at Square Enix is considering. It's hard to say without official details, though, so we'll just have to see what Avalanche has planned when they're ready to reveal it.

In the meantime, go check out Just Cause 3. It's the most fun you'll have liberating an island. Ever.
