Pokemon fans will have to open a whole mess of packs to get their hands on a new type of rare Pokemon card.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game is prepping for the release of "Shining Legends," a special new mini-expansion coming out in the United States and Europe later this month. The set will only have about 80 cards, some of which are rare "Shining" cards that have their own special foil and artwork featuring the alternate Shiny coloration of certain Pokemon.

We now know that these Shining Cards will be almost as rare as Shiny Pokemon in the video games. According to the site PokeBeach.com, which tracks Pokemon Trading Card news and products, the pull rate for Shining cards is about one in every 15 packs.

While the Pokemon Trading Card Game doesn't publicize card rarities, the common consensus is that "ultra-rare" cards like Full Art cards, GX cards, and Rainbow Rare cards appear in one out of every three packs. This means that Shining cards will be five times as rare as those cards, and they will likely fetch a significantly higher price on the resale market.

What's more, players won't be able to buy individual packs of the upcoming expansion. "Shining Legends" booster packs will only be available in special box collections that will cost $13 or more.

The "Shining Legends" expansion will also include four new GX cards, including a new Mewtwo-GX card that might be the coolest-looking card we've seen in a very long time.

Pokemon fans should start seeing "Shining Legends" box sets in stores starting October 6th.
