Square Enix’s Left Alive Screenshots Hint At Metal Gear-Style Design

Ever since its slightly cryptic reveal at Tokyo Game Show last month, people have been talking about Left Alive, a third-person shooter that will tie in with Square Enix's popular Front Mission franchise. But based on the screenshots that were recently revealed by the publisher, it's going to be about much more than mech action.

The screenshots indicate that we're looking at more of a third-person action/stealth style of experience, with your soldier infiltrating war-torn areas and try to keep an eye on mechanized units. That's not to say we won't be getting any mech action within the game, but thus far, it's a good idea of what the much bigger picture will hold.

And it definitely has a distinctive look that's similar to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – but that shouldn't be too big a surprise, considering that the game will feature character designs by Yoji Shinkawa, who previously worked on the Metal Gear franchise.

The screenshots definitely show the bleakness of the world. But if you want more details about the game, Famitsu recently disclosed some quotes from the developers:

• Producer Shinji Hashimoto: "We wanted to make a Front Missionwith a new lineup. We started this new title to see Front Missionin a slightly different perspective.

• Director Toshifumi Nabeshima: "It's a third-person shooter. There's also Wanzer-riding action and stealth elements. How the game is cleared is up to the player."

• Producer Shinji Hashimoto: "Square Enix wanted to convey the feeling that we cherish Front Mission."

We're still going to be waiting a bit to see what Left Alive brings, as the game isn't slated to arrive until sometime in 2018 for PC and PlayStation 4. But it definitely looks to be quite interesting, with three protagonists to play in all and plenty of enemies to deal with, probably human and robotic alike.

It's just a matter of seeing what else it's capable of – and hopefully we'll see more come December at PlayStation Experience. It'd be a perfect place for a new reveal.
