Super Mario Odyssey Demo Reportedly At Best Buy Locations

Up until this point, the only way you could play Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch is if you stood in line for several hours and played the demo at a trade event like San Diego Comic-Con or PAX West. But apparently, it's going to be a lot simpler to get your hands on the game before its release later this month.

A report from NeoGAF indicates that Nintendo has prepped its game kiosks at the Best Buy retailer with new demos for Super Mario Odyssey, letting players run wild in one of the game's levels.

"I just returned from a local Best Buy, and it looks like they have updated demo kiosks with Super Mario Odyssey included," the poster noted. "You get to play in Tostareena (the desert/ice level), and appear to have pretty much free reign of the level. I'm pretty sure it is on a timer, maybe five minutes? If not there is a proximity end screen when you approach the final boss that I happened to trigger at an awkward time."

The poster also said, "Other than looking great, I don't personally have much for impressions to add that isn't already around in other threads. I played with split joycons, but the set up makes it hard at Best Buy as they are tethered and it makes them twist awkwardly in your hands. I advise using the other controller scheme's if available."

Since Best Buy is closed at the time of this report, it's unknown if this is confirmed with all locations yet. But it sounds like Nintendo is beginning a nationwide rollout of these demos to get players excited for the game, which is just a few weeks' away. Hopefully, the kiosk also contains a taste of Fire Emblem Warriors, which will be releasing a few days beforehand. It wouldn't hurt to have a good one-two punch to remind people why they want a Nintendo Switch. (We'd even take a 3DS demo of Warriors at this point.)
