There was no doubt that Call of Duty: WWII would be getting a Mature rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB for short), mainly because every other Call of Duty has pretty much had a similar rating. But when Sledgehammer Games said they weren't holding back on the grit of war in the forthcoming game, they meant it.

The rating has officially come in, and given an M rating, as expected, for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Language. But the rating summary actually goes a little deeper than that, explaining how some certain attacks can actually leave enemies dismembered – or maybe even decapitated. This could possibly be limited to the Zombies mode that's included in the game, but the ESRB didn't elaborate.

Here's the breakdown straight from the company:

"This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of an American soldier through the Allied campaign in Europe during WWII. Players use machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, and explosives to kill enemy soldiers; some weapon attacks result in decapitation and/or dismemberment, leaving bloodstains and body parts on the ground. Battles are frenetic and accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large explosions. Cutscenes also depict instances of violence: a prisoner shot in the head at close-range; enemy soldiers shooting themselves to avoid capture. The words "f**k" and "sh*t" are heard in the dialogue."

Safe to say, Call of Duty: WWII does not hold back on its language or violence, nor should it, as Sledgehammer Games was clearing going for an authentic approach. Plus, you've also got Zombies mode to consider, and with a good portion of the team having worked on the Dead Space saga beforehand, you could say they were definitely going for a scary approach.

We'll see how the full game comes together when Call of Duty: WWII releases on November 3rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
