Fortnite Has Already Banned Thousands of Battle Royale Cheaters

Fortnite has attracted quite a few PvP-ready players thanks to its new Battle Royale mode and Epic Games is already looking to combat the cheater epidemic that populates multiplayer shooters.

A recent news update from Fortnite's developers acknowledged the fact that cheaters are already more than ready to ruin other players' games in the Battle Royale mode, rule-breakers who miraculously pop you in the head while spinning and auto-aiming with ease. The cheaters were inevitable, but Epic Games is plenty aware of the issue.

"We play PvP games like Fortnite Battle Royale for their competitive integrity," the post began. "That feeling of outshooting somebody in an intense standoff and snagging that Victory Royale! And then there are cheaters, the 360-spin instant headshot, we all know so well."

But Epic Games isn't letting these cheaters go unpunished. Instead, they're taking pretty swift action against those who prefer to play the game by their own questionable rules, and Epic Games has apparently already gone after thousands of players.

"To start, addressing cheaters in Fortnite is the highest priority across Epic Games," the update continued. "We are constantly working against both the cheaters themselves and the cheat providers. And it's ongoing, we're exploring every measure to ensure these cheaters are removed and stay removed from Fortnite Battle Royale and the Epic ecosystem. We don't want to give too many clues about what we're doing, but we are rolling out tools and will continue to do so. Thousands have been banned and we have no plans to stop!"

Fortnite isn't exactly hurting for players since the Battle Royale mode was added that allows players to fight it out against others while still building their defenses, so the rule-abiding playerbase will have no problem saying goodbye to the cheaters. Even with thousands of players removed, the game seems to be doing quite well so far, so don't worry about finding full matches anytime soon.

Epic Games also confirmed that a new account progression system will be coming in the next few weeks to allow players to earn more loot while playing. The devs closed out their discussion about cheaters by saying that they'll continue working on solutions for the issue.
