Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will have a potentially game changing new mechanic from a very unlikely source.

The latest issue of CoroCoro came out in Japan and revealed several new details about the upcoming pair of Pokemon games. The most surprising news was that the player's RotomDex will have new abilities, including a new "Z Rotom Power."

RotomDex is a PokeDex inhabited by a Rotom and serves as both a companion and an invaluable tool to the player. In Pokemon Sun and Moon, RotomDex's abilities were largely passive in nature but the new games will give it a chance to make a major impact in battles. Once a player has bonded with RotomDex in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the Pokemon/device can use its Z Rotom Power to give the player the ability to use two Z-Moves in one battle.

This is a pretty big change, as Z-Moves were so powerful they could originally be used only once per battle. Not only will this give players a chance to hit opponents with two supercharged attacks, it also could make a huge difference in the competitive scene and metagame...if those the Z Rotom Power carries over into PvP battles.

Some are speculating that the Z Rotom Power will only apply to in-game battles and not affect battles against other world trainers. After all, double stacking Z-Moves would be a massive change and could throw competitive gameplay totally out of whack.

We should find out more about the Z Rotom Power in the coming days, as the Pokemon Company will probably release a video providing more details about the new changes.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon comes out on November 17th.
