Sweeping stat changes are coming to each League of Legends champion soon, but like the new runes themselves, the first wave of buffs will likely just be the first of many.

For those who are more concerned with the actual runes themselves while testing them on the PBE and building rune pages online, you might've missed the broach stat changes that every champion is receiving. These changes are being tested on the PBE, but seeing how every champion must be accounted for, there are quite a few changes to make. Most of the changes involves buffs to champion's base stats to accommodate the loss of the current runes' stats.

"What we are trying to do is give each champ what they'll need to be successful post runes changes," Riot meddler said in a Gameplay Thoughts post. "Based off how other changes impact them champs may need more or less base stats added than others to put them around the same spot they were before. Magic damage dealers for example benefiting from MR removal from old runes effectively gain extra power that way, even if they're not directly getting extra stats. Some champs may need much more specialized adjustments, whereas others may be fine with just a bunch of armor."

But moving forward with the new runes, it'll certainly take some time for everything to reach a suitable balance considering how different stats and runes will be post-Runes Reforged. The first set of stat changes that are being tested for everyone will go out soon enough in an upcoming patch, but after that, there's more work to be done.

"The adjustments that go in 7.22 will also just be round one," Meddler continued. "They're our best estimate of what's needed to begin with, the real polish and tuning will come afterwards though once we've seen where champion balance actually lands, rather than having to just work off predictions."

Meddler closed his comments on the stat changes by reminding players that every preseason patch introduces some difficulties for certain champs, but further base stat changes should help keep them in line as issues become apparent.
