It's a pretty big week for the Nintendo Switch, between Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, L.A. Noire and Skyrim: Special Edition arriving this Friday. But, for now, players can partake in one of the biggest multiplayer hits out there – Rocket League!

Psyonix has officially launched the "socCAR" game for the platform, letting players take on a variety of modes as they attempt to score goals, block shots and perform all kinds of fancy maneuvers, all in the name of winning games.

Ported by Panic Button! (the same team that worked on the fantastic Switch port of Doom), the game sells for $19.99 and is currently available for download in the eShop.

Rocket League has a number of great features and modes that were previously released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, along with some bonus cars that Nintendo fans will love, including fashionable vehicles based around Mario, Luigi and Metroid. They'll have to be unlocked as you progress, but they're well worth fighting for.

Although the visuals do have a very slight downgrade compared to other versions – a design choice by the team in order to keep the frame rate stable – there's no question that it's a lot of fun thus far, based on what we've played. Plus, it gives you the utter excuse to take Rocket League with you wherever you go, without having to lug around an elaborate unit with a portable monitor, or a laptop, to enjoy it with your friends. The local multiplayer option is a welcome one as well, as players can duke it out in split-screen.

You can check out the launch trailer for the game above, and see what kind of action awaits you with the Nintendo Switch version of the game. Again, it's not the ultimate port out there – that honor still belongs on other consoles – but it's a welcome addition to Nintendo's library, and one that will certainly leave players happy as they score goals like crazy and unlock plenty of goods for their garage. We can't wait to hit up multiplayer and see who's ready to challenge us.

Rocket League is also available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
