Street Fighter V’s Third Season Could Introduce Several Veterans To The Game

It’s been a crazy week of rumors, all fueled by a leak over on Reddit indicating several big projects that are coming up in 2018. Among these rumors was the report that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite would be getting several big names, including members of both the X-Men and Fantastic Four groups. (And, of course, Deadpool.)

But that’s just the beginning, as another Capcom fighting game could be in for a pretty big year – Street Fighter V. Rumor has it that it will be receiving a huge boost from a forthcoming third season, which will be loaded with a number of veteran characters – including some tremendous crowd favorites.

We’ve already known that Capcom was working on some kind of Arcade Edition of the game, set for release in January, but we could see an announcement during PlayStation Experience next month that will introduce the first fighters of the forthcoming third season.

Among the fighters that could be introduced are Sagat, who’s been with the series since it began in 1991; Street Fighter Alpha veteran Sakura; Cody of Final Fight and Street Fighter Alpha fame (hopefully without being dressed like a mummy this time); Sodom (from Final Fight); and a pair of two new characters. These will be the general introductions of the third season, and part of a separate season pass for the game, at least as far as the rumors go.

But that’s not all, as Capcom intends to introduce a number of free characters into the mix, as a thank you to veterans that have stuck around with it since its release. These characters include Street Fighter IV favorite Crimson Viper, as well as Street Fighter III: Third Strike brawlers like Q, Necro and Oro.

Again, take all this with a grain of salt, as Capcom hasn’t said anything official about the Arcade Edition of the game just yet. But if this all does end up being announced, Street Fighter V could enjoy a nice turn-around yet – especially if the Capcom Cup boosts its chances at success.

Street Fighter V is available now for PlayStation 4 and Steam.
