The director for the upcoming God of War game recently weighed in on the comments that EA made about linear games and whether gamers are still interested in them or not.

EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen recently doubled down on the company's perspective of linear games, a type of game that they've said players simply don't want as much as they used to. At the Credit Suisse 21st Annual Technology Conference, Jorgensen discussed EA's decision to shut down Visceral Games while citing their stance on linear games as a key factor in the move, calling it an "economic decision."

However, it's been made quite evident both before and after the most recent comments from EA that not everyone aligns with the company's views. Cory Barlog, the director for the new God of War game, is one game creator and player who took an issue with EA's statement. Barlog tweeted a response to Jorgensen's statement that disputed their claims about gamers' lack of interest in linear games.

This isn't the first time that Barlog has commented on the linear game discussion. Back in October, he made comments on single-player games while stating that "you can have agency in a linear story game." God of War games are about as linear as you can get, but that hasn't stopped them from being received extremely well. The newest game in the series that's simply titled God of War looks like it'll be no exception when it's eventually released, and it's understandable that Barlog would be a huge defender of linear games. He agreed that he's probably a bit biased towards the games but pointed out how EA and others who devalue linear games refer to the linear characteristic as if it's some sort or dirty word, a view that he couldn't disagree with more.

God of War doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, but it is scheduled to be out sometime in early 2018.
