Persona 5 Sells A Whopping 2 Million Copies Worldwide, Altus Says Its Been An "Incredible" Year

Persona is an incredible RPG series that has some of the most loyal die-hard fans. The dark franchise is the perfect balance between everyday life experience, with a totally twisted edge to it. Today, Altus has updated fans with the good news that their latest title, Persona 5, has officially reached over 2 million in sales world wide, which is a phenomenal feat for the company and definitely reason to celebrate.

In a recent press release, Altus President and CEO Naoto Hiraoka says that this year has been "incredible" for the company and they can't wait to continue bringing Japanese games over to the west (yay!):

"We are in the middle of experiencing tremendous growth, both in the west and abroad, and the sales of Persona 5 represent a new level of expectation for fans of the genre. Once seen as niche, Persona 5 is one of the most important titles this year, proving interest in this category is expanding. We look forward to delivering more incredible games to our fans next year."

The most recent title is also sweeping this year's Game Awards with nominations for Game of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best Music, and Best Role-Playing Game! You can see more about the exciting announcements for this year's ceremony here.

"Persona 5 is a game about the internal and external conflicts of a group of troubled high school students - the protagonist and a collection of compatriots he meets in the game's story - who live dual lives as Phantom Thieves. They have the typically ordinary day-to-day of a Tokyo high schooler: attending class, after-school activities, and part-time jobs. But they also undertake fantastical adventures by using otherworldly powers to enter the hearts of people. Their power comes from the Persona, the Jungian concept of the "self"; the game's heroes realize that society forces people to wear masks to protect their inner vulnerabilities, and by literally ripping off their protective mask and confronting their inner selves do the heroes awaken their inner power, and using it to help those in need.
