More new Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go announced via Twitter that 23 additional Pokemon first seen in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire will be added to the game later today. While Pokemon Go declined to say which Pokemon were coming, they did provide a new piece of promotional artwork that showed off several new Pokemon.

If the promotional artwork includes Pokemon to be added to the game, we'll see the following Pokemon later today:

  • Numel
  • Camerupt
  • Aron
  • Lairon
  • Aggron
  • Solrock
  • Lunatone
  • Cacnea
  • Cacturne
  • Trapinch
  • Vibrava
  • Flygon
  • Whimsur
  • Loudred
  • Exploud

That's 15 species, which leaves 8 more Pokemon species unaccounted for. Some other possibilities include Baltoy and Claydol, Torkoal, and Nosepass, all of which match the desert theme that this wave of Pokemon seems to have.

The promo art also includes Groudon, another Ground-Type, which seems to hint that the Legendary Pokemon could make a second appearance in Pokemon Go. Groudon was Pokemon Go's first "Gen 3" Legendary Pokemon and was pulled from the game earlier this month to make room for Kyogre.

This marks the fourth wave of "Gen 3" Pokemon added to Pokemon Go and the first batch of new Pokemon to be added in 2018. Pokemon Go started its "Gen 3" rollout back in October 2018 during the Halloween event and then followed it up with two major releases of Pokemon in December 2017. Once this new wave of Pokemon is completed, Pokemon Go will have about 35 more Pokemon to complete the "Gen 3" wave, which includes seven more Legendary Pokemon and a mythical Pokemon. That means we'll likely see the rest of the non-Legendary Pokemon get released in a new wave sometime in the next month or so.

Of course, Pokemon Go has made each wave of new Gen 3 Pokemon unique in their own way. We'll likely see one or more Shiny Pokemon get added to the game, along with a new Raid Boss or two. If we had to guess, we'll also get two new regional Pokemon, as players have widely speculated that Solrock and Lunatone would be split up similar to Plusle and Minun.

We'll have continuing coverage of Pokemon Go's new Pokemon throughout the week, so stay tuned!
