This week, Bandai Namco Entertainment released the first screen shots, details and footage of New Gundam Breaker, the latest addition to a franchise that focuses entirely on building and battling Gunpla. The new title includes a storyline that sets up most of its game play, following a group of students at a specialized school known as as Gunbre High School. The new footage shows off some of the settings that players will be battling in, along with, of course, the actual battle system within the game. Check it out and then hit the jump for more details about the game.

According to Bandai Namco, New Gundam Breaker will pattern close to its predecessors, allowing platers to build their own customized Gunpla with parts that range "from heads to shields, guns to swords and everything in between."

Here's a quick summary of the game and its features from the official press release:

  • An action game and the only Gundam game based on "Gunpla"(Gundam plastic models).
  • The story of New Gundam Breaker begins at the Gunbre High school, which is dedicated to help students master their Gunpla.
  • By defeating enemies, stealing and gathering up their Gunpla parts, and customizing your very own Mobile Suit, you can create the strongest Gundam all your own.
  • Many Gunpla battlefields are being prepared. Battles will even unfold atop a desk.
  • There are even situations where 1/60 size giant enemy Gundam appear. Players will be able to enjoy battles where there is a considerable difference in scale.
  • The basic battles of New Gundam Breaker are three-on-three team co-op matches. The rules are simple: your team must try to earn the highest score within the time limit to win. Of course, you can also play single-player.
  • Fights against enemy Gunpla and huge bosses will take place on unique battlefields. Players can team up with their friends in a competitive online coop-mode battling for the most parts.

The cast of characters is brand new, and the game is fully-voiced by a cast that a few fans of the Gundam franchise might find familiar.

New Gundam Breaker is set for worldwide release some time later in 2018, exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
