Rumor: Call of Duty Film Could Be Gaining Traction With Sicario 2 Director

A while back, Activision launched a huge film division in the hopes of getting some of its major franchises onto the big screen – and one of its biggest just began its first steps to getting made.

Variety has reported that the Call of Duty film, one of Activision's forthcoming projects, is picking up speed with the potential signing of a director – Sicario 2: Soldado director Stefano Sollima. The director of the forthcoming summer film is currently under negotiations to direct the Call of Duty film. Activision didn't have any comment on whether they've made any traction with Sollima, but considering their experience in military-based action, it seems like an ideal fit.

Activision Blizzard Studios' presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk will step in as producers of the film, alongside Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick.

So far, we only know about the director that's in discussion. No stars have been signed onto the project yet, nor does it have any sort of start date. So it's still in the very early state of moving forward, but it certainly is progress.

There has been discussion about getting the Call of Duty films off the ground as an intertwined "universe", similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe set-up, and this film could act as the launch for said franchise. That's not entirely confirmed just yet, as Activision has yet to reveal story details about what's to come with the films.

For now, Sollima is still in talks, so we'll let you know when they're signed on. As far as casting, that hasn't even had an opportunity to get discussed yet, though Activision likely has its choices for who they want in the film, even if they haven't revealed their choices just yet.
