Five Best Moments In The Final X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer
Today saw the release of the final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, and the new trailer certainly [...]
Magneto Loses His Family
The X-Men movies, particularly X-Men: First Class, have done a wonderful job of bringing Magneto's origin – one of the most compelling of any villain in comic books - to the big screen. So far that's mostly focused on his childhood during the Holocaust, but the new trailer shows another key moment, the loss of his family.
We've known that the death of Magneto's family would be the thing that leads him to become one of Apocalypse's Horsemen, but the moment in this trailer really brought home the pathos of the moment. In the comics, the loss of his wife, Magda, and his children is what first led Magneto to lash out against humanity, and set him down his path to super villainy. All of that feels present in Michael Fassbender's performance.
prevnextNightcrawler Makes an Exit
It's a relatively small thing, but seeing Nightcrawler teleport his way out of a problematic situation is something that should bring joy to any X-Men fan's heart. We get that in the final Apocalypse trailer in the form of Kurt giving Raven a lift.
What's interesting here is that, though Kurt may be younger than he was in X2: X-Men United, he seems to be a bit more comfortable with his powers. In his first film appearance, Nightcrawler needed line of sight to teleport. Here, he seems able to blindly teleport, with Mystique along for the ride, without a problem.
prevnextQuicksilver Tells Mystique about Magneto
We already knew that Quicksilver was going to be motivated to find his father, Magneto, in X-Men: Apocalypse, which would eventually lead him to join the X-Men.
It's interesting that Fox has now confirmed Peter's father is Magneto not long after Marvel retconned that fact out of existence in the Marvel Comics Universe. It just goes to show that, while Magneto was not originally intended to be Quicksilver's father even in the comics, it's become an essential part of X-Men's mythology for many fans.
prevnextStorm vs. Cyclops
The trailer gave us a glimpse at a classic X-Men comic book battle brought to life: Storm vs. Cyclops.
Okay, so the context is entirely different in X-Men: Apocalypse than it was in the comic book battle. In the comics, Storm (who had recently lost her mutant powers) battled Cyclops for leadership of the X-Men. In the film, it's a fully powered Storm battling a rookie Cyclops for the survival of the world as we know it.

File under "obviously." The final shot of the trailer confirmed that, yes, Hugh Jackman will appear as the Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse
It's unclear how large Wolverine's role will be in the movie, but the trailer suggests that we'll at least be seeing Wolverine – adamantium claws intact – tearing up his imprisoners at Weapon X. In fact, it may turn out that the X-Men are responsible for setting him free in the post-X-Men: Days of Future Past timeline. Whether he ends up joining in the team in battling Apocalypse, or just heading out to do his loner thing, remains to be seen.
