Following the revelation at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy that there's something alien in Peter Quill's DNA, filmmaker James Gunn revealed during a Q&A with fans on Facebook that there are no human characters in leading roles on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Asked whether Deadpool would make a cameo appearance in Guardians, Gunn said that it would be impossible since the character's movie rights are held by Fox, "and also there are no humans in Guardians Volume 2, basically. No main char--"

At that point, Gunn cut himself off, not wanting to continue his train of thought.

Update: Gunn has posted a clarification of his comment from his Facebook live chat. "For the record, I meant to say no primary human characters besides Peter Quill. Despite his mysterious heritage, I think of him as human."

Gunn's comment is still pretty interesting from the perspective of that Kurt Russell joined the Vol. 2 cast in what most are assuming is an important role, so it's likely he's not playing a human. Also, there have been Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set videos that appear to show Earth locations. While it's still possible that some Vol. 2 scenes might be set on Earth, it sounds like no new primary human characters will be introduced in those scenes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is in production and principal photography now for a May 5, 2017 release. The entire principal cast and director James Gunn return from the first chapter.
