X-Men: Apocalypse Director Thinks Mystique Should Get A Solo Film

Director Bryan Singer and writer/producer Simon Kinberg dropped by Empire Podcast to discuss their most recent collaboration, X-Men: Apocalypse, and what the future might hold for Fox's X-Men film franchise.

That future could include solo films for more X-Men characters, and if that decision was up to Singer, he would like to see Mystique/Raven branch out on her own, preferably with Jennifer Lawrence reprising the role of the blue-skinned, shapeshifting mutant.

In X-Men: Apocalypse, Mystique rejects the heroic symbol ("I'm the face of a world that doesn't exist") that she has become to other mutants; however, by the time the film ends, she embraces the role and becomes the battlefield leader of the X-Men. Singer believes they could build off of her "just because everyone knows about mutants doesn't mean they like them" outlook on the world.

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. The cast features James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Lucas Till as Havok, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Josh Helman as William Stryker, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Ben Hardy as Angel.

The film is directed by Bryan Singer, based on a story by Singer, Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. The script was penned by Kinberg.
