Marvel Comics today announced that, after 9 years, Genndy Tartakovsky's Luke Cage miniseries Cage. The four-issue miniseries was originally announced in 2007 but was never released. The miniseries takes Luke Cage back to his 1970s roots.

"I grew up following most of the major titles like Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Avengers, etc," Tartakovsky tells Birth.Movies.Death. "But I had also a lot of love for the smaller titles like Master of Kung Fu, Black Panther, The Defenders, Inhumans, and of course Power-Man and Iron Fist. I always liked the martial art aspect of Iron Fist with the raw street energy of Cage. I saw it in my head like Bruce Lee and Shaft hanging out together. And Cage was fun, I liked the idea of a down and out hero scrapping for work, love, and just trying to survive."

Tartakovsky is best known as the creator of Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and the original Star Wars: Clones Wars series, as well as the director of Hotel Transylvania. He spoke to ComicBook.com in September about the state of his Cage series.

"All I know is that I got all the pencils done and I feel like I can take it all the way but I don't know if they're interested in finishing it," he said at the time. "It was really fun doing it. I was looking over it a couple months ago and going, "It still stands up!" I think it's really great and people would get a kick out of it."

It seems like Marvel decided to take it all the way after all. Cage will debut as part of Marvel NOW! this fall. Check out the official solicitation below.
