Zendaya - Spider-Man

After Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at SDCC last night, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts revealed the first names of several supporting characters from the movie to EW. According to Watts, Disney star Zendaya will play a character named Michelle, Tony Revolori will play "Flash", Jacob Batalon will play "Ned", and Laura Harrier will play "Liz".

Flash and Liz are presumably Flash Thompson and Liz Allan, two longtime friends of Peter Parker from high school. Flash started off as one of Peter Parker's biggest bullies, but the two eventually developed a strong friendship after college. Allan was Flash's high school girlfriend, but she also had a crush on Peter and later married Harry Osborn.

Zendaya's character is a bit more vague. The popular guess is that Zendaya will play a younger version of Michelle Gonzales, a more recent addition to Parker's group of friends, but it's quite possible that Zendaya's character is a new character made just for the film. Batalon's character is also a new character, a confidante for the new Spider-Man.

As filming continues on Spider-Man: Homecoming, it's likely that more information will come out about the film. It would be interesting if the newest Marvel film decided to pass on using either Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's main two love interests.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out July 7, 2017.
