As if Marvel Studios wasn't dominating things enough on the big screen, their foray into the Netflix world has also been a big success, with Daredevil seasons 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones all paving the way for a big Marvel superhero team-up on the small screen (The Defenders). Up next in the saga is Luke Cage, the highly-anticipated series about the titular Harlem hero played by Mike Colter, who has super strength and invulnerable skin.

The first Luke Cage trailer was released online today, and it contains a Sweet Christmas card to fans of the Marvel Comics character's history.

For those who don't know, Luke Cage, "Hero for Hire," began in 1970s Marvel Comics with a second superhero alias, "Power Man." Like most people in the '70s, Power Man had a flamboyant and colorful costume, which consisted of a silky yellow shirt and boots, blue spandex pants, a chain belt and some silver wristbands and a matching tiara. Yeah, you heard right.

It should be fairly obvious that the Netflix series won't be bringing back the classic Power Man look, but for fans of the character, the Luke Cage Netflix series has a fun little Easter egg nod - see for yourself:

In the MCU continuity, Cage's Power Man outfit is reduced to the silver bands and tiara we see in this shot, which are instruments of the strange experiment that gives him his superhuman abilities. Since we haven't seen the full sequence (which is likely a flashback), there's no way to tell if there are more classic Power Man costume nods in Cage's experiment gear (like, is he chained down in the tube?).

Either way - this is the fun sort of Easter egging that Marvel has perfected: giddy fun for hardcore fans, without being too distracting or esoteric for mainstream viewers.

Luke Cage season 1 premieres on Netflix on September 30th, 2016. Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. The Defenders and Iron Fist arrive in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 are TBD.
