In Civil War II #3, the Marvel universe was dealt a heavy blow thanks to the death of the beloved and feared Bruce Banner at the hands of his one-time fellow Avenger Hawkeye. Like most things involving superheroes, not all was as it seemed, and in the newest Steve Rogers: Captain America, some key facts are finally brought to light.

Spoilers for Steve Rogers: Captain America #5 incoming, so if you haven't read it yet be forewarned.

If you wondered why Captain America hasn't had a bigger presence in Civil War II, you needn't wonder any longer, as issue #5 reveals that Rogers has been rather busy during that time. In fact, when the storyline started, he was planning to ambush his fellow heroes at their own celebration party. The only thing that prevented that was the discovery of Ulysses, which led to the decision to take out the inhuman, lest he discover their plans.

Right before the events of Civil War II #2, Cap was just about to handle this perceived "loose end" before Tony Stark interrupted him. After that didn't go as planned, Rogers and Selvig figure out how to manipulate Ulysses vision, as he seems to prioritize the biggest threats first. Banner receives experimental information from an anonymous donor, information that could help cure Banner of his Hulk persona, or so it says.It involves the use of Gamma Radiation, and it was Rogers who sent it to him. This is why he was working with it when the Avengers found him, and that set the dominoes in motion for his death.

Likewise, Rogers also receives an email from Captain Marvel, who is currently interrogating Alison Green. Green popped up in one of Ulysses visions in the midst of a Hydra plot, but Rogers reveals that she is nowhere in the Hydra records, so Ulysses vision is actually incorrect.

This issue has massive ramifications for Civil War II, as it not only reveals that Ulysses can be wrong, but his visions can be manipulated by outside interference. It will be interesting to see what Captain Marvel's reaction is when this does at some point come out into the open.

Steve Rogers: Captain America #5 is in stores now.
