Scott Derrickson Would Love To See Doctor Strange Interact With These Guardians Of The Galaxy

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a very interconnected universe. The film franchise kicked off in 2008 with Iron Man and will roll out Doctor Strange later this fall. To promote the film, director Scott Derrickson took time to do an AMA (Ask Me Anything) and Reddit where he talked about the sorcerer supreme - and he also revealed which other Marvel characters he like to see interact with Doctor Strange.

When asked about a possible team-up, Derrickson said that "Strange and Rocket [Raccoon] would be an interesting encounter." The director later added Groot to his line-up and hoped Stephen Strange would meet up with the lovable alien.

Of course, fans would be delighted to see the magical hero work together with those Guardians of the Galaxy. The trio are arguably some of Marvel's more interesting characters, but they've all be brought to the public's attention because of the company's blockbusting films. After all, fans weren't hyped to hear that Groot and Rocket Raccoon would hit the big screen at first, but the overwhelming success of the film quickly changed their reactions.

And, what's more, the three characters would get on with their extraordinary gifts. Doctor Strange's mind-bending magic would pair well with Rocket's powerful armory and Groot's superhuman strength.

However, the two Guardians might not fit in so well with Doctor Strange's solo film. The movie promises to deliver a darker, more serious story to fans of the MCU. During his Reddit AMA, Derrickson told fans, "it is a bit darker and more serious than other Marvel movies. I think the connection between my horror films and this film is the balance of the supernatural/fantastical with very realistic, grounded characters."

It's not surprising to hear that Doctor Strange will be one of Marvel's more complex features. After all, Derrickson has talked about his love for the character previously and said his loneliness "is really painful."

"Thematically, the loneliness of that character, I always really liked, the idea of a character who had gone through so much trauma and was placed into a position between our world and other worlds, other dimensions," he said.

"Literally, that's a lonely position. I like that. I think that, as I've gotten older, my continuing love for Doctor Strange has been that he is a character who transforms through suffering, and, for me, that's kind of the most powerful thing. He goes through this gauntlet of trauma and suffering, going all the way back to his childhood, in the comics, but, then, he appropriates that suffering in a certain way that limits him. Then, he goes through the loss of everything, in a really painful, unbearable way, and, eventually finds self-transcendence in something mystical."

Marvel's Doctor Strange will cast a spell on audiences November 4, 2016.
