Director James Mangold recently released a photo of Charles Xavier in his upcoming Wolverine sequel Logan, and nothing in the photo is unintentional.

After Mangold shared the original photo on his Twitter account, user David Atchison pointed out "Looks like Ol Chuck has strands of hair on his head, but it's still rad." That prompted a response from Mangold that said: "Maybe there's a reason there's strands on his head."

Xavier originally lost his hair during the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. After a failed attempt by Apocalypse to take Xavier's power for himself, the trauma caused his hair to fall out. This falls in line with what actor James McAvoy said in 2015 about the harrowing ordeal.

"He ends up going through something so horrible and painful that he literally half pulls his hair out half… it falls out," McAvoy replied. "Maybe or maybe not"

As for why his hair is all of the sudden starting to return, who knows, but Mangold's comments seem to indicate that there will be a specific reason and that it will tie into the overall plot.

Logan follows an older and more wearisome Wolverine, who's powers aren't what they used to be, and sometimes they don't seem to work at all. The same goes for Professor Xavier, who Logan and mutant Caliban are caring for. At times, Xavier doesn't seem to know who Logan is, let alone anyone else, and the world is a far more dangerous and ruthless place than it once was.

Logan is set for release on March 3, 2017.
