Clark Gregg On Not Being The Director Of SHIELD Anymore

Agent Coulson has been through a lot in his four seasons of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, but the most recent change might be his most difficult, as the character looks to adjust to a new role within the show.

Coulson is no longer the director of SHIELD, and ComicBook.com's Jim Viscardi was able to catch up to actor Clark Gregg to talk about his new role within the group, and asked if he was upset at the shakeup or more enjoying his increased field time.

"No, everything Jedd, and Maurissa, and Jeff Bell and our writers come up with, luckily it has more complexity like you said. It's eating away at him to have somebody else running and potentially putting his people in danger, that's really hard."

While he is concerned for the safety of his people, Gregg doesn't think Coulson places that much importance on the position itself.

"On the other hand, I don't think his goal in life was to be the director of SHIELD, I think he felt he was fulfilling his purpose most purely when he was, and having the most fun probably, was kind of the key field agent for Nick Fury, his go-to guy for stuff.

As Ghost Rider's quest for vengeance brings him into an explosive confrontation with S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson and Mack must rely on an unlikely ally in their time of desperate need; and Daisy reunites with a familiar face to stop the Watchdogs.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs on ABC Tuesdays at 9 p.m.
