In the first footage from Spider-Man: Homecoming released today, there's a lot to distract you. There's a namedrop of Tony Stark and an appearance by Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, for instance. There's the fact that it starts in first person point-of-view, an interesting choice that weill make fans wonder if that will happen at all during the movie. Then there are those web-wings, the classic webbing underneath his arms that allow Spidey to glide a bit.

All of that is very cool, but that all distracts from the timeline of the footage. It looks like the start, at least, with Happy Hogan and the delivery of a case from Tony Stark with "a minor upgrade" is not when Spidey gets the new "web wings" costume. Instead, it takes place during the events of Captain America: Civil War, ahead of the big airport battle that serves as our main introduction to Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When Peter Parker (Tom Holland) first looks down, he's wearing sock-like generic red boots. Then, he picks up the card, showing off the cut-off finger gloves (likely believing he needed direct finger-to-wall contact to climb walls at the time of his making his own costume). Finally, he extends his arm fully to open the case, revealing the large and clunky webshooters and the sweatshirt sleeve.

The timeline, putting at least parts of Homecoming within Civil War, means we could see a few things in the movie. We might see an earlier shot of makeshift-costume Peter fighting crime; maybe even the video that Stark shows Peter in real-time. It means we could get cameos by other Avengers, too, even if it's just a slightly different point of view of some of that big airport battle scene.

While they likely want to maximize the Robert Downey Jr appearance as Tony Stark, this could also mean that his appearance in the film takes place ahead of the final act of Civil War. We might just see Peter's point of view (as we literally did in this footage) from when Stark leaves his apartment going forward. That's probably not the case - again, you don't get RDJ and not use him for at least a couple more scenes, but the implication of this footage is that's at least a possibility.

We'll find out more when the full trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming debuts on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night, and when the movie hits theaters July 7, 2017.
