2016 has been a banner year for one of the members of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. And no, it's not the Hulk.
Tom Holland was cast as Marvel's Peter Parker, and fans have loved the way he brings the youthful energy and wit that emodies the classic iterations of the web-slinger. After his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, fans knew that Holland was the right man for the job.
The actor's success in the role prompted an immediate solo movie, and Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theaters later this summer. When the first trailer for Homecoming was released in December, every Spider-Man fan felt like they were finally getting the Spidey movie that they had always wanted.
As if the commercial success wasn't enough, Holland is also being recognized from a critical standpoint. It was just announced that the actor has been nominated for BAFTA's rising star award.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has listed Holland as a finalist for the award, as he has appeared in various successful movies around Hollywood. Before his first appearance as Peter Parker, the actor starred in films such as The Impossible and In The Heart Of The Sea.
In 2017, Holland will also star alongside Charlie Hunnam in the adventure tragedy film, The Lost City Of Z.
While Holland looks to be the front-runner for the award, he wasn't the only Marvel actor to be nominated. Ruth Negga, Raina from Agents Of SHIELD, has also received a nomination. The actress has turned heads with her quirky performance in Preacher, and is gaining a lot of Oscar buzz for her performance in Loving.
